Tap a Taxi is Ireland's first driver-owned taxi app — a co-operative where every driver is a shareholder, every fare stays local, and every decision is made by the people behind the wheel.
Look, we’re not going to pretend we’re the biggest or the fanciest. We’re a group of taxi drivers who had a simple idea: what if we owned the app ourselves?
Right now, a big chunk of every fare earned by Irish drivers goes to platforms based overseas. Drivers have no say in the rates, the fees, or how the app works. We thought that wasn’t right.
So we built our own. Tap a Taxi is a Co-Op, and every driver who joins is a co-op member with a real stake in the company and a vote on how it’s run.
Sure, we don’t know if we’ll win. But that’s never stopped us before.
Every member is a shareholder. No outside investors, no venture capital, no faceless board. The drivers are the board.
One driver, one vote. No leaderboards, no driver grades, no preferential treatment. Major decisions are made by the members, for the members.
There's no 15–25% commission skimmed off every fare. Drivers keep what they earn. The co-op is funded by a one-off membership share and a flat monthly subscription — not by taking a cut of fares.
Tap a Taxi Co-Op was founded by a group of experienced taxi representatives who have spent years advocating for fair regulation, driver welfare, and industry standards across Ireland. The co-operative is open to all licensed taxi drivers on the island of Ireland, regardless of association membership.
Co-operative registration with the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS) and the Registry of Friendly Societies is currently in progress.
What you pay is what they get. Your fare stays with the driver, stays in the community, stays local. Same taxi. Better choice.
