Passenger Questions

Tap a Taxi is Ireland’s driver-owned taxi app. It works just like other ride-hailing apps — download it, enter your destination, and get matched with a local, licensed driver. The difference? There’s no surge pricing, no technology fees, and every driver on the platform is a co-op owner.

Tap a Taxi is owned by the drivers themselves through a co-operative. There’s no commission taken from drivers, no surge pricing for passengers, and no technology fees added to your fare. Same taxi, same journey — but where your money ends up is completely different.

No. The app is free to download and free to use. There are no technology fees, no booking fees, and no sign-up charges. You pay the meter fare to your driver — that’s it.

No. Never. The price on the meter is the price you pay. We don’t inflate fares during busy periods or create fake scarcity to justify higher prices.

You can pay by card through the app, by contactless to your driver’s terminal, or in cash. The choice is yours.

Report any issue through the app or contact us at hello@tapataxi.ie. We respond within 24 hours.

We’re launching in a number of eastern counties in March 2026. Check the coverage map in the app or on our website for active areas. Coverage expands as more drivers join.

Yes. Book now or schedule for later — perfect for airport runs, early mornings, or nights out.

Driver Questions

A one-off €300 co-op share purchase plus a flat monthly subscription of €120. The share makes you a member and shareholder with voting rights. The subscription funds the platform and is not linked to your trip volume or earnings — and any changes to the amount require a democratic vote by the members. On top of that, standard card processing fees apply to non-cash payments. Cash fares have zero fees.

If a passenger pays by card through the app, the payment is processed via Stripe and standard processing fees apply. You can also accept contactless payments via your own SumUp terminal. Cash payments have no fees at all.

You need a valid SPSV licence issued by the NTA — the same licence you already have if you’re driving a taxi in Ireland.

Tap a Taxi is a co-operative, currently registering with the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS). Your €300 share purchase makes you a member and shareholder. You have voting rights on major decisions — including changes to the monthly subscription. One driver, one vote. No outside investors calling the shots.

No. Unlike other apps, there are no leaderboards, no driver grades, no status tiers, and no preferential fare assignment. Every driver is treated equally. Fares are distributed fairly — not based on metrics or rankings.

Yes. No exclusivity requirement. Run Tap a Taxi alongside any other platform.

We’re investing heavily from launch to grow passenger numbers. The passenger app is completely free with no technology fees, making it easy to attract riders.

Card payments are deposited to your bank account on a regular cycle. Cash fares are yours immediately.

You have a vote. Attend general meetings, propose changes, and vote on decisions. That’s the whole point of a co-operative.

Head to the For Drivers page and complete the membership form. You’ll need your full name (as on your dashboard ID), badge number, phone number, email, and operating counties. Payment of the €300 share is via Stripe. Your monthly subscription will be set up separately. You’ll receive a confirmation email with your unique membership number.
